about

This here is a set hewn entirely from modern compositions. Ben Williams of Tiree by John Somerville, is a march under normal conditions and found fame and fortune being played by the Treacherous Orchestra. It is a fab tune but since every swinging dick out there was playing it, at the time that we were recording this opus, we slid it into jig time.

Gambled and Lost comes to us through the overactive imagination of His Grace, Bishop Jon Bews. Its subject is…well…the wrong bet placed in a game of chance and the fallout thereof whilst the subject of

Cian in the Sticks is what was Dan’s son Cian’s favourite toy and place to spend his time when he was five years of age.

The Cockerel in the Creel, also by Donald MacLeod, was inspired by his memories of the tradition, on the Isle of Lewis, of incarcerating roosters under a creel on the Sabbath that they might not do any work, especially the Devil’s work, on the Lord’s day. Nowadays, instead of chicken bothering, the Stornaway council just puts big orange locks on the swings in the playparks at 11:59 pm. on Saturdays.

Lord MacConnel of Lough Earn and Lochend is by Alean Domhnullach mac a’ Whaler and refers to Cathal MacConnel of Lough Earn and Lochend.
